It only takes a moment

 

 

     Today has been so wonderful. We broke up for half term on Friday and I had a day at drama yesterday ( and my second driving lesson, which was terrifying) so today was my first day off. Which was a wonderful feeling. I decided to go to the car boot sale in Wetherby as today is the final one before it finishes for winter. I got some brilliant bargains, including the leather jacket below for £8. I think that's pretty decent, as you would pay £40 or more in a shop for something similar, but anything over £5 feels ridiculously expensive at a car boot! I also got a dusty pink shirt and a striped pink shirt for school for £2.50, down from £4. (My haggling skills are improving by the week.)

     Then I went to White Rose to scavenge some boots for school, as it seems to be raining every day and I always come home with wet feet, so I need something to lift me off the ground slightly. Got the black ones below, and another brown pair with check lining (gorgeous) that I'm picking up tomorrow.

     Outfit for today was a dress I bought from H + M after school on Friday. it was only £10 (has now gone up to £13) and I just love the shape of it, although it is not, I repeat is not, suitable to wear outside when there is even the slightest breeze. Believe me. Wore with gold earrings and brown boots, and would have worn my new jacket it hadn't been airing on the washing line.

 

 



 

 

 

      Also, I know I said I wasn't going to be spending too much, but I do have a reason for this spend! My boss has gone on holiday and has decided to pay me a full days wages for what I would have worked today! So I had a bit of extra money, and saw some gorgeous things - why not? I got a lovely checked dress with a white Peter Pan collar from Primark for £13. I didn't think the shape would suit me at all, but it is slightly fitted and I love it! Then I got the mustard blouse from H+M, that they also do in a dress, (but I looked like a potato in that, so that was a no). The blouse looked much nicer anyway, with billowing sleeves and fitted cuffs. Then at New Look, I found a checked skirt and a 2 in 1 blouse and jumper for school.
     Checks are absolutely EVERYWHERE at the minute. It's metal: scarves, skirts, dresses, shirts, you can't get away from the stuff. I hope it doesn't get too overdone this season and become even more clichéd than it already is, as I love wearing checks!

Autumn days when the grass is jewelled

     Oh, Jesus, do I love autumn. Yes, I flipping well do, and to be honest I don't see how you can't. It's my favourite time of year, apart from Christmas. I love the rain, the cold, dark evenings you spend snuggled up by the fire reading in thick woolly jumpers. I also love the colours of autumn, as you can tell by this post. Burnt oranges, mustards, green, truffle browns...

     I think the idea of autumn is so romantic as well. I'm currently listening to 'Baby, it's cold outside' on repeat (I know it's only October, please don't judge me) as I love Christmas and am so in the mood for it after our Christmas Cabaret rehearsals on Saturday.

     One of the biggest parts of sixth form has been being able to wear (almost) what I want every day. Well, slight exaggeration, there are obviously some rules, like no jeans, trainers etc. and you can't be too crazy - it has to be smart. But I'm getting into the swing of picking out an outfit every morning and feeling more and more relaxed about it as I do. I would take pictures but 7:30 really is too early to be in front of a camera. I wore a really arm jumper today and felt so cosy; it also means I'm actually making use of the millions of big coats I have, as it is sooo cold now. Even school has a silver lining!

The pictures are to die for - I'm so in the mood to make an apple/pumpkin pie right now and just sit by the open fire whilst it rains ferociously outside...

Listen to the colour of your dreams

     Hello! These last few weeks have been so incredibly mental, in a good way I guess. I haven't posted once since I started sixth form - that's crazy! It has been so madly busy for the last five weeks though. I'm really liking the sixth form at my new school, but the work load is ridiculous. I have been permanently shattered for the last five weeks, and literally haven't had a day off!
     Subjects wise: Spanish, is good but its probably one of the hardest at the minute. When the teacher starts talking about 'the imperfect subjunctive' I just lose it and go off in a bit of a daydream, to be perfectly honest. English Lit is pretty good; we're studying 'The Kite Runner' by Khaled Hosseni (Think that's how you spell it?) for the exam, and it's a really good book, would definitely recommend it if you want to read something a bit different. We're also doing 'The Taming of the Shrew' for coursework, which is just annoying me really because it's such a sexist book and I have a feeling I won't be able to write anything positive about it at all! History I am really enjoying and I'm so glad I did take it, although it is very politics based at the minute. Saying that, we should be getting on to WW1 soon, so things may liven up slightly! Textiles was a bit of a pain in the bum at first, as I didn't quite see eye to eye with the teacher but seems to be progressing nicely now.
     Saying  all of that, there is SO much work every single day. But, moving on, I did have time last Saturday to nip down to 'The Vintage Kilo Sale' that had come to Leeds. I was desperate to go as I missed the last one because of exams and the next one is on my 17th birthday.(Next Saturday ahh!) I was really happy with my outfit - you now those days when it really just works and you feel so satisfied? One of those days. I apologise for the random rubbishy pictures: just before I ran out get the bus I remembered to take some but no one was in the house so I had to improvise.

     I know I'm pulling a face here - think it was the sunlight. The shorts are New Look, literally haven't worn them in years but they were the only thing that I liked with my new shirt. I say new, I mean from the charity shop in Wetherby. It was about £5 but its soo cute, it has little pens on it! I couldn't resist.

     I love how the shorts bring out the colours in the shirt and it feels like to jacket just brings it all together really well. I loved wearing it anyway - I felt well suited to be at a vintage kilo sale!

I think you can just about see the ring I'm wearing - it's from 'Culture Vulture' in Leeds. A brilliant shop, full of odd little trinkets and pieces of jewellery, like this one, which is a pug. I have a camera necklace and sewing machine necklace from there too (that you can see I'm also wearing in a few pictures); I just love the quirky things they sell! Also, the watch I got from a  charity shop for £1.99 and, fair enough I had to fay a fiver to get it working again, but I was looking on the Topshop website this morning and they are basically selling the same watch for £65!! Total bargain.

     The coat was SUCH A BARGAIN - it was part of a suit that I nabbed at a car boot sale the other week for - wait for it - 50p!!!! I really wasn't sure whether to get it or not, as my mum thought it was too 'granny-ish', and, to be honest, I agreed but it was my size and I figured, for 50p, I could at least use the fabric if I didn't want to wear it. I tried it on at home and together it does look a bit naff, but separately it's like a godsend. Lovely high waisted, creamy check trousers and a warm, fitted jacket made brilliant additions to my wardrobe.

    The kilo sale was brilliant and I feel as  though I spent my money more wisely than last time - I actually tried on the things that I wanted to buy! I did have to restrain myself from buying some things that I am instantly attracted to but its because I already have something like that, like tartan/checked coats, checked shirts. I guess it's mainly coats at this event, as they have so many, but I did allow myself to buy one, as it was so different from all the ones I have. In the end, I bought a lemon yellow chunky cardigan that is SO comfy and a bright yellow coat with false fur around the collar - it is so lovely, even though it did shrink slightly when I washed it.

     I am really going to try and not spend to much in the near future - I feel like I've gone a bit crazy on clothes recently and I need to actually wear them before I buy more! The thing is, when it's from a charity shop, and cheap, I can convince myself that it's such a bargain, it would be silly not to get it.

     We're doing Hairspray at my drama school for the end of term show this year (I'm playing Tracy, ahh!) and today I also started rehearsals for the Christmas Cabaret show we're doing. It's going to be full of amazing Christmassy songs and I can't wait to get on with it! I think because last years Christmas was practically stolen by mocks, to drag it out a bit this year really won't be a bad thing!

Penpal pandemonium

It feels like (and probably has been) forever since I last posted. Ooops. I do have a valid reason though - I was on holiday for two weeks and when I came back discovered that my computer had logged me out of my blog...and that I hadn't actually written down my password. After many frustrated attempts, I managed to get back in. I was actually incredibly relieved, which made me realise that I've become slightly attached to this blog, even though I haven't posted half as much as I wanted to this summer.
I start my new sixth form tomorrow and haven't been nervous in the slightest until I woke up this morning and actually started to think about the fact that is it tomorrow. But then I do tend to think too much and then I just end up worrying, so I decided to distract myself by getting up to date on here.
The holiday was wonderful, jut what I needed - a few weeks away from reality to do lots of reading in the sun, eating nice food and smiling. I also got my GCSE results ( which thankfully went very well, as I could have put a slight dampener on the holiday if I'd failed something) and also changed one of my A-Level choices from Drama to History. (I'm really hoping that was the right thing to do.)

 

 

Only have a few photos from the holiday. In the top photo, with my mum, I'm wearing a dress from Primark, that I managed to scavenge just a few days before we left, for FIVE POUNDS! I wore it all the time as it was so comfy and has a gorgeous vintage pattern.

The bottom one is on results day, we ate out at a restaurant called 'La Bodeguita' and it was so lovely. When we booked the table they asked if it was an occasion so I explained about results. When we arrived they had put a big sign up saying 'Felicidades' and little flowers scattered the table. I had a gorgeous pizza with pesto and cherry tomatoes and afterwards, they brought out this pudding for me (for free!). It was a wonderful night that I'll certainly remember - it just felt very special!

I really couldn't sleep last night and so was looking through Instagram

 (which is a bad thing to do when you can't sleep because it just makes you think about everything and anything and then you still can't sleep) and ended up looking through all of 'The Love Parcel's page - you HAVE to check it out (http://instagram.com/theloveparcel) or visit her website(http://theloveparcel.storenvy.com/). It is just to die for. I swoon looking at the photo's - I really can't put in to words what they make me think of so I am just going to list the words that come into my head (this is just proving how lacking my English / creative writing skills are!)

Basically, it's exactly what I wish my blog would look like! I just want to own every single thing that is sold (but it's my birthday soon so fingers crossed!). It made me think that that could be something I could do in the future: start up a little crafty business-type-thing to earn some money doing something that I love. Seems ideal! I can just imagine sitting by the fire on rainy days, creating beautiful little parcels and letters to send to strangers all around the world...then again I would hate it if I got sick of doing it because I had to...I'll think about it. I have way too much on now, but it really is something I would consider, maybe at uni to earn a bit (probably would be a very tiny weeny bit!) of money whilst keeping creative? (I literally have to have a creative outlet at all times or I actually get really grumpy.)

It also made me think about writing letters - which I love to do and often write to my grandparents, but that's it, as no one seems to send them anymore! So I was wondering if anyone would be interested in doing a penpal kind of thing? I figured here would be the perfect place to ask as anyone reading this probably has similar interests to me. I find the idea so wonderful - little messages travelling around the world, making peoples day a little brighter knowing that someone, somewhere has spent their time putting pen to paper for them. You could pop little pressies in the letter too, maybe something that you don't really want to keep - they do say 'one mans trash is another mans treasure' and I (obviously!) believe that is so true! Imagine coming home from an awful day at school and finding a beautiful handwritten letter, just for you, filled with little interesting thoughts, jokes maybe, song lyrics to share, and some little presents. It's a way of sharing what you think about and things you love.

I guess you can find out about each other, write about little thoughts that pop in to your head, but the great thing is, things that you find really dull about your life, other people will actually find really interesting, as it may be so very different to their lives or it not then it's interesting to talk about similar experiences.. It's a bit like blogging, I guess, but in letters and more personal! So, after all that, if anyone is at all interested please comment or get in touch! :)

The room is turning slowly away from the moon

 

 

Hello,

I feel like my greetings are always so dull but what can you say other than hello , hi etc...? Hola? Greetings? I'll think on that. Anyway, this post is based around a wonderful little find I had yesterday. I had just got off the bus on my way to work and happened to see a charity shop open. I was 20 minutes early for work and so decided to pop in for a quick nosy. Little was I to know I was about to tumble across the greatest pair of shorts I think I will ever own. AND IN MY SIZE. I MEAN, WHAT ARE THE ODDS? They were high waisted, with a beautiful floral pattern with a black background and were only £3.50! It was obviously meant to be so I (very spontaneously for me) bought them immediately, along with a gorgeously elegant cream headscarf.

 

 

HERE THEY ARE! These photos really don't do them justice - they are so beautiful. (I apologise for the background in these photos i.e. the teddies etc. We were in a slight rush this morning so I just snapped a few pics before I left. I will get round to using a more creative setting one of these days!)

 I know the rest of my outfit is quite dull really, just back tights, black shirt and I wore brown boots and a maroon cardi, but the shorts and hair were my main focus today!

And ohhh the headscarf. My friend slept over last Thursday and we were messing around with one of my headscarf's and she (jokingly, to start off with) twisted one around a bit and twisted it then around my head. I was feeling rather ridiculous until I looked in the mirror and realised that with a few adjustments and clips, this could be a look I could pull off. And so today, I finally did it. I did something with my hair. I honestly never do anything with my hair because... well, I just don't like my hair really! But today I tried it and I think it went alright? It probably doesn't look like much but it felt so weird as normally I just have my hair down, covering my face and chest! I felt so ridiculously sophisticated and with a slap of my cheap red lipstick and my groovy shorts I felt more confident than I have done in a looong time. it felt very 'vintage-esque' as well, which made me feel all the more comfortable and...well, me!

 

 

 I threw on some (VERY cheap) gold earrings and this camera necklace I bought in the sale at Culture Vulture in Leeds ( amazing shop), and I feel that this pulled the whole look together.

Today was a brilliant day. I went shopping for the first time in a long time - honestly, I felt like I was having withdrawal symptoms. I actually think I am having withdrawal symptoms from 'Our House'. The shows all went amazingly well (apart from Saturday matinee, but honestly, that show is best forgotten about...) and I loved every second of it. I get way too attached to the show and the people at these things. (We got some brilliant 5 star reviews too!)

Anyway, today was shopping at White Rose Centre in Leeds, mostly for the holiday this time next week! I actually hardly bought anything for the holiday as I just saw so many other things that I didn't need at all but absolutely fell in love with at first sight! I'll take some pics of everything I bought soon, probably on Wednesday, as I'm working all of tomorrow, but honestly, some things were just to die for!

It was so lovely to be able to get dressed up again after weeks of rehearsals in sports gear! My mum also treated me to my first proper red lipstick from The Body Shop, as she was buying an orangey one and they were on three for two. Safe to say I've fallen in love with it and it
 probably won't last very long! I'm going out with some friends on Wednesday night so that's another chance to get dressed up woopee! (Just read that back...oh god. Sounds very sad, but that is my life as of now!)

I'm off to watch the end of 'Wuthering Heights' now (with Tom Hardy, mmmm). Hope everyone's having a wonderful summer! Much love,
